If you have been looking at our reviews of the various hearing aids currently available you will have noticed that there have been some major improvements to mid-range hearing aids over the last year or two. Features that were previously only available is the top models have now started to filter down to the mid-range aids so that you can get significantly better hearing for your money than you would have done previously.

Balancing the benefits you require from a hearing aid with a budget that doesn't break the bank can be tricky. To help with that we have compiled a list of the best options currently out there that give you the most for your money.

The criteria for our mid range top 10 list is based on a reasonably active lifestyle. We are considering hearing the television, hearing well in small groups of people, in sociable occasions and in moderately noisy settings such as restaurants to be important. For this list we have taken into account cost and balanced that against how good the hearing aid is. We have no allegiance to any particular manufacturer. As you will have read from the rest of our website we are truly independent.

First place | Unitron North 800 - £1595

Upper mid-range hearing aid offering fantastic hearing for the price.

+ Very good sound quality, practically as good as the Phonak V90 but £100 cheaper.

+ Attractive award winning design

- Behind the ear only, no in the ear models available at this time (Update - ITE's now available)

Resound Linx2 7

2 | Resound Linx2 7 - £1395

Combining most of the features of the top model (the Linx2 9) with smartphone compatibility this aid is a popular choice.

+ Very good sound quality.

+ Designed to work with iPhones and android devices for increased functionality

+ Full range of forms now available including in the ear, completely in the canal (CIC) and invisible in the canal (IIC)

- Price

 

Phonak Audeo V70

3 | Phonak Audeo V70 - £1395

Excellent hearing aid, sound quality is comparable to the Unitron and Resound aids above. It only misses the top spot by not having the features of the Resound or the better price of the Unitron.

+ Very good sound quality.

- Behind the ear only, no in the ear models available at this time

Unitron North 700

4 | Unitron North 700 - £1295

It just about fits into our criteria for hearing well in noise. The North 700 has a good range of features for this price point

+ Good sound quality

+ Attractive award winning design

- Behind the ear only, no in the ear models available at this time (Update - ITE's now available)

 

Resound Linx2 5

5 | Resound Linx2 5 - £1095

This aid also just about fits into our criteria for hearing well in noise. A great aid with the same smartphone features as the more expensive models.

+ Good sound quality.

+ Designed to work with iPhones and android devices for increased functionality

+ Full range of forms now available including in the ear, completely in the canal (CIC) and invisible in the canal (IIC)

 

Siemens Binax 5

6 | Siemens Binax 5 - £995

Great specification hearing aid offering good value for money. However as with its big sister the Binax 7, some audiologists have reported issues with a number of clients not getting on with these aids.

+ Good sound quality

+ Invisible in the canal (IIC) option, the Insio recently added to the range.

- Feedback from audiologists hasn’t been as positive as for other products in its class.

 

Oticon Nera2 Pro

An upper mid-range hearing aid at a competitive price point.

+ Good sound quality

Widex Dream 220

8 | Widex Dream 220 - £945

An older aid and a little on the basic side compared to its peers but due to this it comes in at a lower price point.

Starkey Z-Series i70

9 | Starkey Z-Series i70 - £1095

Good hearing aid, good price point. Fulfils all of our criteria, just unfortunately not as well as the competition.

+ Good sound quality

 

Phonak Q50

10 | Phonak Q50 - £1095

This doesn’t quite have all the features to fulfill our criteria nor the reduced price of some of the above aids but it is still a solid offering.

- Older technology

+ Full range of forms is available including in the ear and completely in the canal (CIC)

+ Price
