Starkey G Series AI 20 hearing aids overview

Most people's daily lives do not take place in the noisiest possible environments. They are at home, in the car, in a moderately busy café, at a family gathering, or occasionally in a restaurant that turns out louder than expected. Launched in May 2026, the Starkey G Series AI 20 hearing aids are built for that reality.

It is the tier that balances genuine AI-assisted performance with a price that does not assume you need everything the 24 level provides. The AI directionality is strong and consistent. The speech-in-noise performance handles the environments most people actually move through. And the Bluetooth specification is identical to the top tier.

Every G Series AI 20 is fitted and fine-tuned in person by a fully qualified, registered audiologist. Your price includes your free hearing test, fitting, and free aftercare for the life of your hearing aids.

Quick highlights

  • The best balance of performance and value in the G Series AI range
  • Available in two BTE (Behind-the-Ear) styles
  • Friendly AI directionality across all everyday listening environments
  • Strong speech-in-noise performance for daily life situations
  • Bluetooth streaming via the My Starkey app (same specification as the 24)
  • Telecoil for hearing loop compatibility
  • Compatible with the full StarLink wireless accessory range
  • Suitable for mild to severe hearing loss
  • Free hearing test, fitting, and aftercare for life are included in every price
  • 60-day money-back guarantee

Why choose the 20 level?

Built for real life, not worst-case scenarios

The G Series AI 20 delivers reliable, AI-assisted performance across the full range of everyday listening environments: quiet rooms, moving vehicles, moderately busy restaurants, social gatherings, and outdoor settings. The automatic transitions between environments feel natural. You do not notice the technology switching, which is precisely how it should work.

The processing is not at the absolute ceiling of what the G Series AI platform can do. In practice, the gap between the 20 and the 24 only becomes noticeable at the most demanding end of the noise spectrum. For the majority of people's daily lives, the 20 covers the ground that actually matters.

Speech in noise

The G Series AI 20 delivers meaningful speech-in-noise improvement across the environments most people encounter day to day. The AI-assisted processing separates speech from background sound consistently, and most people upgrading from NHS aids or older private aids will notice a clear difference from the first fitting.

For anyone who regularly finds themselves in the most extreme noise environments, the 24 provides stronger processing and is worth the conversation with your audiologist. For everyone else, the 20 performs well where it counts.

Models available

Power BTE 13:  The Starkey G Series AI 20 Power BTE 13 is a Behind-the-Ear hearing aid powered by a size 13 battery. It is available across five technology levels (24, 20, 16, 12, and 10) and comes in Silver, Beige, Graphite Grey, and Chestnut. It includes telecoil, Bluetooth streaming via the My Starkey app, and full compatibility with the StarLink accessory range.

Ultrapower BTE 13:  The Starkey G Series AI 20 Ultrapower BTE 13 shares the same Behind-the-Ear design and size 13 battery, and is available in the same five technology levels and four colours. Designed for greater amplification, it suits more significant levels of hearing loss while offering the same telecoil, app control, Bluetooth, and StarLink accessory compatibility as the Power model.

Connectivity

The G Series AI 20 carries the same Bluetooth specification as the 24. It streams phone calls, music, and podcasts from iOS and compatible Android smartphones via the My Starkey app, with volume and programme control available directly from your phone.

For anyone coming from NHS hearing aids with no connectivity at all, this changes daily life in ways that are genuinely useful rather than just impressive.

Both models also include a telecoil. If you attend venues with hearing loop systems, whether that is a local theatre, a place of worship, or a GP surgery waiting room, the telecoil connects the aids directly to the loop and removes much of the background noise that makes those settings difficult.

Both styles are fully compatible with the StarLink wireless accessory range:

  • TV Streamer
  • Table Microphone
  • Remote Microphone Plus
  • Mini Remote Microphone
  • Remote Control 2.0

G Series AI 24 vs G Series AI 20

Both tiers run Starkey's Friendly AI directionality and deliver strong speech-in-noise performance. For most everyday listening environments, the gap between them is small. The difference becomes meaningful at the demanding end of the noise spectrum: busy restaurants with several conversations happening at once, large social gatherings, or complex working environments with significant background sound.

If those situations are a regular, consistent feature of your daily life, the 24 level is worth considering. If they arise occasionally rather than routinely, the 20 will serve you well and represents better overall value.

Your fully qualified, registered audiologist will confirm the right tier for your hearing profile and lifestyle after your free hearing test.

Is the G Series AI 20 right for you?

It could be the right choice if:

  • You lead an active, varied daily life and want hearing aids that perform reliably across a wide range of situations
  • You are stepping up from NHS aids and want a significant, noticeable improvement in sound quality and connectivity
  • You have been quoted higher prices elsewhere and want to understand what you are actually getting for your investment
  • Noise is a factor in your daily life, but not at an extreme or consistent level

It may not be the right choice if:

  • You spend most of your time in quiet or very predictable environments. In that case, the G Series AI 16 is worth considering and represents better value.
  • Noise is a frequent, significant challenge in your daily life. In that case, the G Series AI 24 is the conversation to have with your audiologist.

FAQs

  • What does BTE mean?

BTE stands for Behind-the-Ear. The main body sits neatly behind the ear, with a small tube or wire connecting it to a soft dome or mould that sits in the ear canal. Because most of the aid is outside the ear, BTE styles tend to be easier to handle day to day, and they work well across a wide range of hearing losses, including more significant ones.
  • How does the G Series AI 20 compare to NHS hearing aids?

NHS hearing aids are functional, but they typically offer limited sound processing, no Bluetooth connectivity, and no ongoing fine-tuning beyond your initial fitting. The G Series AI 20 offers AI-assisted sound processing, direct smartphone streaming, and free aftercare for life. Most people upgrading from NHS aids notice a clear and immediate difference.
  • Do I need a hearing test before I can buy?

Yes, and your free hearing test is included in your price. Your audiologist needs your current hearing profile to fit and programme the aids correctly. The test also confirms whether the G Series AI 20 is the right match for your level and type of hearing loss.
  • What is the 60-day money-back guarantee?

If you are not satisfied with your hearing aids within 60 days of purchase, you can return them for a full refund. No quibble. Your audiologist will discuss this with you at the time of fitting.
  • What aftercare is included?

Free aftercare for the life of your hearing aids. Once your hearing aids are fitted, your local audiologist is there for the long haul. Whether you need a fine-tune, a follow-up, or just a question answered, it is all included at no extra cost.
