Unitron Smile Moxi RX 9 Hearing Aids Overview

If you spend real time in noisy, unpredictable environments, busy restaurants, family gatherings, meetings at work, or anywhere with competing conversations, and you want your hearing aids to handle all of that without you having to press a button or open an app, the Unitron Moxi S-RX 9 is the model worth looking at closely.

It sits at the top of the Unitron Smile range and is the only tier in the S-RX family with fully automatic HyperFocus and AutoFocus 360. Together, those two features mean the aids classify what is happening around you in real time and apply the right processing automatically, in the most demanding listening situations you can put them in.

Available through Your Hearing with a free hearing test, fitting by a fully qualified, registered audiologist, and free aftercare for life, at prices up to 40% less than the high street.

Key feature:

  • Technology level: Premium (Level 9), Unitron Smile platform
  • Style: RIC (Receiver-in-Canal)
  • Listening environments: 8, including Conversation in a Crowd and Conversation in Loud Noise, all automatic
  • AutoFocus 360: Speech enhanced from all directions, not just in front
  • HyperFocus: Fully automatic in loud noise (no manual input needed)
  • SoundSonic360: Deep neural network (DNN) AI processing for clear speech in background noise
  • Battery life: Up to 24 hours from a full charge (charges in approximately 3 hours)
  • Bluetooth: Universal, works with iPhone and Android, up to 8 paired devices, 2 connected simultaneously
  • Water and dust resistance: IP68 rated
  • Controls: Rocker switch, double-tap gesture, and Remote Plus app
  • Accessories: Compatible with TV Connector, PartnerMic, and Phonak Roger microphones
  • Colours: Amber, Espresso, Platinum, Pewter, Charcoal, and Sand

What makes the S-RX 9 different from the 7 and 5?

All models in the Moxi S-RX range use the same ERA chip, the same RIC housing, the same Bluetooth system, and the same charger. The difference is what happens when listening gets genuinely difficult.

AutoFocus 360 is exclusive to the Level 9. It uses all four microphones across both aids to identify speech from any direction around you and enhance it in real time. If someone behind you asks a question, or two conversations are happening simultaneously from different sides of a room, the S-RX 9 handles that in a way the lower tiers simply cannot.

HyperFocus works differently. In very loud environments, rather than trying to pick up everything, it narrows all four microphones into a tight beam in front of you, giving you maximum clarity for the person you are speaking to. On the S-RX 9, this activates automatically. On the S-RX 7, you have to activate it yourself. On the S-RX 5, it is not available at all.

Integra OS on the Level 9 covers all eight listening environments automatically, including the two most demanding: Conversation in a Crowd and Conversation in Loud Noise. These two environments are not available on the S-RX 7 or S-RX 5.

For people who move between environments regularly and do not want to manage their hearing aids manually, that automatic behaviour is what justifies the S-RX 9's position at the top of the range.

Integra OS

The S-RX 9 recognises and adapts to eight distinct listening environments without any input from you:

  1. Conversation in Quiet
  2. Conversation in Noise
  3. Conversation in a Small Group
  4. Conversation in a Crowd (Level 9 only)
  5. Conversation in Loud Noise (Level 9 only)
  6. Music
  7. Noise
  8. Quiet

Connectivity and app

The Moxi S-RX 9 connects via Bluetooth to both iPhone and Android smartphones, as well as tablets and other Bluetooth-enabled devices. The ERA chip provides enhanced Bluetooth range, and hands-free calling works directly through the aids themselves.

The Remote Plus app gives you control when you want it: adjust volume, change programmes, review your listening environment history, and use the Ratings feature to flag moments when the aids are performing well or need adjustment. That feedback goes directly to your audiologist for fine-tuning at your next appointment.

The Log It All feature runs in the background, recording which environments you have been spending time in. This gives your audiologist real-world data to work with, rather than relying on a snapshot from a single appointment.

If you would rather not use the app at all, that is entirely fine. The S-RX 9 is designed to work automatically without any app involvement.

Two optional DNN-powered app programmes, SpeechSonic and NoiseSonic, are also available for moments when you want to fine-tune how the aids handle speech and background noise in real time.

Charging and maintenance

A full charge takes around three hours and delivers up to 24 hours of use. In normal daily use, most wearers comfortably get through a full day on a single charge.

The ChargerGo is an optional accessory with its own built-in battery, useful if you travel regularly or are often away from home. It is not included in the standard price but is worth considering depending on your lifestyle.

The S-RX 9 is IP68 rated, so rain, sweat, and the odd accidental splash are nothing to worry about. And if you want to keep maintenance to a minimum, EasyGuard domes are compatible with this model.

Their sealed tips stop earwax from reaching the receiver, which means less cleaning and a longer life for the component.

Is the Moxi RX 9 right for you?

The S-RX 9 is likely the right choice if:

  • You spend significant time in noisy environments with multiple speakers or competing conversations
  • You work in a busy environment, attend regular meetings, or have an active social life
  • You want your hearing aids to adapt automatically, without needing to adjust settings manually
  • You have been frustrated by previous hearing aids in exactly the situations where you most need them to perform
  • You are upgrading from NHS aids that work reasonably well at home but struggle in busier, noisier settings

It may not be the right choice if your listening is primarily in quieter, everyday settings: conversations at home, one-to-one chats, or watching television. In those situations, the S-RX 7 or S-RX 5 may represent a better value for your actual needs. Your fully qualified, registered audiologist will tell you honestly which level suits your hearing and your life.

HyperFocus on the S-RX 9 activates automatically in loud noise. On the S-RX 7, HyperFocus requires manual activation and AutoFocus 360 is not available. The S-RX 9 also includes two additional Integra OS listening environments: Conversation in a Crowd and Conversation in Loud Noise.
  • Is the Moxi S-RX 9 suitable for severe hearing loss?

The Moxi S-RX range is suitable for mild to severe hearing loss. Suitability for your specific hearing profile will be confirmed by your fully qualified, registered audiologist at your free hearing assessment.

Yes. The S-RX 9 has universal Bluetooth connectivity and works reliably with both iPhone and Android smartphones, as well as tablets and other Bluetooth-enabled devices.

  • Can I try the aids before committing?

Yes. All hearing aids purchased through YourHearing come with a 60-day full money-back guarantee. If they are not right for you within the first 60 days, for any reason, you will receive a full refund.
