Unitron Smile Moxi RX 7 Hearing Aids Overview

If you move between quieter moments and busier ones, small group conversations, background music at a restaurant, or the occasional noisy social occasion, and you are comfortable pressing a button when things get loud rather than needing the aids to decide for you, the Unitron Moxi S-RX 7 is worth a close look.

It sits just below the S-RX 9 in the Unitron Smile range and shares the same AI processing system, the same ERA chip, and most of the same capabilities. The meaningful difference is that HyperFocus, the feature that sharpens the microphones into a tight beam in very loud noise, is available here as a manual control you switch on yourself, rather than engaging automatically as it does on the S-RX 9.

For people who want near-top-tier clarity without the fully automatic price tag, and who are happy to have a little input when the environment demands it, the S-RX 7 is an excellent, well-balanced choice.

Available through YourHearing with a free hearing test, fitting by a fully qualified, registered audiologist, and free aftercare for life, at prices up to 40% less than the high street.

Key features:

  • Technology level: Advanced (Level 7), Unitron Smile platform
  • Style: RIC (Receiver-in-Canal)
  • Listening environments: 6, all automatic, including Conversation in a Small Group and Music
  • SoundSonic360: The same deep neural network (DNN) AI processing as the S-RX 9, identifying speech within background noise in real time
  • AutoFocus: Automatic speech enhancement from the front
  • Dynamic Noise Reduction: Runs automatically in the background
  • HyperFocus: Available as a manual programme, activated via the button on the aid or the Remote Plus app
  • Battery life: Up to 24 hours from a full charge (charges in approximately 3 hours)
  • Bluetooth: Universal, works with iPhone and Android, up to 8 paired devices, 2 connected simultaneously
  • Water and dust resistance: IP68 rated
  • Controls: Rocker switch, double-tap gesture, and Remote Plus app
  • Fine-tuning channels: 20 (same as the S-RX 9)
  • Accessories: Compatible with TV Connector, PartnerMic, and Phonak Roger microphones
  • Colours: Amber, Espresso, Platinum, Pewter, Charcoal, and Sand

What makes the Moxi RX 7 different from the 9 and 5

All models in the Moxi S-RX range use the same ERA chip, the same RIC housing, the same Bluetooth system, and the same charger. The difference between tiers is how much the aids do automatically, and how much stays in your hands.

The S-RX 7 includes SoundSonic360, the same AI-driven speech-in-noise processing found on the S-RX 9. It uses a deep neural network chip to identify speech within background noise and keep it clear in real time. AutoFocus and Dynamic Noise Reduction also run automatically, handling most everyday listening situations without any input from you.

Where the S-RX 7 differs from the 9 is in two specific areas. It does not include AutoFocus 360, the all-directions speech tracking that allows the S-RX 9 to pick up someone speaking from behind you or across a busy table. And HyperFocus, which narrows all four microphones into a tight beam in very loud environments, is available on the 7 but only as a manual programme you switch on yourself. On the S-RX 9, both engage automatically.

Compared with the S-RX 5, the 7 adds considerably more: SoundSonic360 AI processing, AutoFocus, Dynamic Noise Reduction, manual HyperFocus, and two additional listening environments, Conversation in a Small Group and Music, along with four extra fine-tuning channels. For people who move between quiet and moderately busy settings, that extra processing is genuinely noticeable.

Integra OS

The S-RX 7 recognises and adapts to six listening environments automatically:

  1. Conversation in Quiet
  2. Conversation in Noise
  3. Conversation in a Small Group
  4. Music
  5. Noise
  6. Quiet

Conversation in a Crowd and Conversation in Loud Noise are exclusive to the S-RX 9. For genuinely demanding, unpredictable multi-speaker noise, the 9's fully automatic handling has the edge. For everything short of that, the 7 covers a wide and useful range without any input from you.

Hyperfocus

In very loud environments, the most effective approach is sometimes to narrow your focus rather than try to hear from every direction at once. HyperFocus directs all four microphones into a tight beam in front of you, giving you maximum clarity for the person you are speaking to when the room around you is at its busiest.

On the S-RX 7, you switch this on yourself, through the rocker button on the aid or via the Remote Plus app, when you know a loud situation is coming: a noisy restaurant, a busy meeting, a family gathering where everyone seems to be talking at once. It takes a moment, and for many people, that small step feels like a reasonable trade-off for the price difference between the 7 and the 9.

If you would rather the aids made that call for you, every time, without any input, the S-RX 9 is the one to consider.

Connectivity and app

The Moxi S-RX 7 connects via Bluetooth to both iPhone and Android smartphones, as well as tablets and other Bluetooth-enabled devices. The ERA chip provides enhanced Bluetooth range, and hands-free calling works directly through the aids themselves.

The Remote Plus app lets you adjust volume and comfort settings, switch programmes, activate HyperFocus manually when you want it, and review your listening environment history. The Log It All feature runs quietly in the background, giving your audiologist real-world data on where and how you are using the aids, so adjustments at your next appointment are based on your actual daily life, not a guess.

Battery and maintenance

A full charge takes around three hours and delivers up to 24 hours of use. In normal daily use, most wearers comfortably get through a full day on a single charge.

Life happens, and the S-RX 7 is built with that in mind. It is IP68 rated, meaning a rainy walk, a sweaty gym session, or a splash by the kitchen sink will not cause any problems. Compatible EasyGuard domes add another layer of practicality, with a sealed design that keeps earwax away from the receiver and cuts down on how often the aids need attention.

The optional ChargerGo is worth considering if you travel regularly and want a mains-free top-up on the go. It is not included in the standard price.

Is this hearing aid right for you?

The S-RX 7 is likely the right choice if:

  • You move regularly between quieter settings and moderately busy ones, small groups, background music, and the occasional noisy outing
  • You are happy to switch on extra noise handling yourself when you know you need it, rather than needing the aids to decide automatically
  • You want AI-driven speech clarity without paying for fully automatic processing, you may not need day to day
  • You are upgrading from NHS hearing aids and want meaningfully better performance in busier situations, with genuine AI-driven speech processing, but without every feature running all the time
  • You want near-top-tier performance at a more accessible price point

It may not be the right choice if your days regularly involve genuinely unpredictable, multi-speaker noise where you would rather not think about settings at all. In that case, the S-RX 9's fully automatic HyperFocus and AutoFocus 360 will do more of the work for you. Equally, if your listening is mostly quiet and steady, the S-RX 5 may represent a better value for your actual needs.

Your fully qualified, registered audiologist will give you an honest recommendation based on your hearing test results and daily routine, whatever tier that turns out to be.

FAQs

  • What is the difference between the Moxi S-RX 7 and the S-RX 9?

The main differences are AutoFocus 360 and how HyperFocus works. The S-RX 9 includes AutoFocus 360, which enhances speech from all directions around you, and HyperFocus engages automatically when the aids detect you need it. On the S-RX 7, HyperFocus is available but must be switched on manually, and AutoFocus 360 is not included. The S-RX 9 also covers two additional listening environments: Conversation in a Crowd and Conversation in Loud Noise.
  • Is the Moxi S-RX 7 suitable for my level of hearing loss?

The Moxi S-RX range is suitable for mild to severe hearing loss. Whether the S-RX 7 is the right fit for your specific hearing profile will be confirmed by your fully qualified, registered audiologist at your free hearing assessment.
  • Does the S-RX 7 work with Android phones

Yes. The S-RX 7 has universal Bluetooth connectivity and works reliably with both iPhone and Android smartphones, as well as tablets and other Bluetooth-enabled devices.
  • Do I need to use the app to get the most from these aids?

Not at all. The S-RX 7 handles most listening situations automatically without any app involvement. The Remote Plus app is there if you want to activate HyperFocus manually, adjust settings, or share feedback with your audiologist, but for everyday use, it is entirely optional.
  • Can I try the aids before committing?

Yes. All hearing aids purchased through YourHearing come with a 60-day full money-back guarantee. If they are not right for you within the first 60 days, for any reason, you will receive a full refund.
