Unitron Smile Moxi RX 5 Hearing Aids Overview

If most of your day is spent in fairly steady, everyday environments, conversations at home, the television, a quiet coffee with a friend, or the occasional trip to the shops, and you would like reliable Bluetooth streaming and dependable speech clarity without paying for features you would rarely use, the Unitron Moxi S-RX 5 hearing aids are worth a proper look.

It sits in the middle of the Unitron Smile range, built on exactly the same hardware as the S-RX 9 at the top, but tuned for everyday listening rather than the most demanding, multi-speaker noise. Speech Enhancement, Noise Reduction, and Bluetooth as standard. No unnecessary complexity.

Available through Your Hearing with a free hearing test, fitting by a fully qualified, registered audiologist, and free aftercare for life, at prices up to 40% less than the high street.

What makes the S RX 5 different from the 7 and the 3?

All models in the Moxi S-RX range use the same ERA chip, the same RIC housing, the same Bluetooth system, and the same charger. The difference between tiers is the level of automatic help the aids give you when listening gets more difficult.

The S-RX 5 includes Speech Enhancement, Noise Reduction, Soft Speech processing, and both Pinna Effect features, all running automatically. What it does not include is AutoFocus or AutoFocus 360, the directional speech-tracking found on the S-RX 7 and S-RX 9, and HyperFocus is not available at this level at all.

In practice, this means the S-RX 5 handles everyday conversation and moderate background noise well. In a genuinely loud, crowded room with multiple people talking from different directions, the S-RX 7 or S-RX 9 will do noticeably more. For most everyday listening, the S-RX 5 handles itself sensibly without any input from you.

Compared with the S-RX 3, the 5 adds meaningful capability: Soft Speech processing, Pinna Effect 2, four extra fine-tuning channels (16 versus 12), and a wider range of automatically recognised environments (four versus two). If your days involve any mix of quiet conversation and moderate background noise, that extra processing is worth having.

Integra OS

The S-RX 5 recognises and adapts to four listening environments automatically:

  1. Conversation in Quiet
  2. Conversation in Noise
  3. Noise
  4. Quiet

Conversation in a Small Group, Conversation in a Crowd, and Conversation in Loud Noise are available on the higher tiers. For everyday settings, the four environments covered here adjust the aids sensibly across the situations most people move through in a typical day, without you needing to do anything.

Connectivity and app

The Moxi S-RX 5 connects via Bluetooth to both iPhone and Android smartphones, as well as tablets and other Bluetooth-enabled devices. You can pair up to eight devices and have two connected at once, with hands-free calling working reliably through the aids themselves.

The Remote Plus app lets you adjust volume and comfort settings, switch programmes, and review your listening environment history when you want to. The Log It All feature runs quietly in the background, giving your audiologist a clear picture of how the aids are performing in your actual daily life, which makes fine-tuning at your next appointment much more precise.

As with every tier in the S-RX range, the app is entirely optional. The S-RX 5 is designed to work well without you ever needing to open it.

Battery, charging, and maintenance

A full charge takes around three hours and delivers up to 24 hours of use. In normal daily use, most wearers comfortably get through a full day on a single charge.

The S-RX 5 is IP68 rated, so a rainy walk, a sweaty gym session, or an accidental splash by the sink is nothing to worry about. Compatible EasyGuard domes keep earwax away from the receiver, reducing how often the aids need attention and helping them stay in good shape for longer.

The optional ChargerGo is worth considering if you travel regularly and want a mains-free top-up on the go. It is not included in the standard price.

Is this hearing aid right for you?

The S-RX 5 is likely the right choice if:

  • Your day-to-day listening is mostly quiet to moderate: conversations at home, the television, smaller social settings, and the occasional busier outing
  • You want reliable Bluetooth streaming for calls, music, and TV without paying for features you would rarely use
  • You are upgrading from NHS aids and want better connectivity, a more discreet fit, and improved sound quality in everyday situations
  • You would rather not manage settings manually and want an aid that adjusts itself sensibly without needing your input

It may not be the right choice if you regularly find yourself in loud, crowded, multi-speaker situations: busy restaurants, large family gatherings, or noisy workplaces. In those situations, the AutoFocus and HyperFocus on the S-RX 7 or S-RX 9 will do considerably more for you. Your fully qualified, registered audiologist will tell you honestly if that is the case.

FAQs

  • What is the difference between the Moxi S-RX 5 and the S-RX 7?

The S-RX 7 adds AutoFocus and manual HyperFocus, along with SoundSonic360 AI processing and two additional automatically recognised listening environments: Conversation in a Small Group and Music. The S-RX 5 does not include AutoFocus or HyperFocus, which means it suits steady, everyday listening well but will not actively track speech from multiple directions in a genuinely loud room the way the 7 will.
  • Is the Moxi S-RX 5 suitable for my level of hearing loss?

The Moxi S-RX range is suitable for mild to severe hearing loss. Whether the S-RX 5 is the right fit for your specific hearing profile will be confirmed by your fully qualified, registered audiologist at your free hearing assessment.
  • Does the S-RX 5 work with Android phones?

Yes. The S-RX 5 has universal Bluetooth connectivity and works reliably with both iPhone and Android smartphones, as well as tablets and other Bluetooth-enabled devices
  • Do I need to use the app to get the most from these aids?

No. The S-RX 5 manages its four listening environments automatically without any app involvement. The Remote Plus app is available if you want to adjust settings or give your audiologist feedback, but it is entirely optional for everyday use.
  • Can I try the aids before committing?

Yes. All hearing aids purchased through YourHearing come with a 60-day full money-back guarantee. If they are not right for you within the first 60 days, for any reason, you will receive a full refund.
