The Hearing Company used to be the name of the hearing aid dispensing arm of the Scrivens Optical Group which has been around for donkey’s years (since the 1950s actually).
They seem to have moved away from the "The Hearing Company" brand ever since the condemning report from a joint investigation by the Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID) and Which? Magazine found them to be the worst performing hearing retailer in the country which then led them to recommend further investigations by the regulator, the HPC (Health Professions Council) These days they have gone back to being known just as Scrivens.
Their head office is in Birmingham. They have closed many of their Hearing Company branches and these days operate almost entirely through their network of opticians throughout much of England but not Scotland or Wales.
They used to have around 70 hearing aid dispensers at their height but now have significantly fewer and are one of the smaller national retailers if not the smallest. The main brands that they sell are Starkey and Bernafon.
Your Hearing covers the whole of the UK and Ireland and we publish our prices from all of the big 8 hearing aid manufacturers. We also offer home visits at no extra cost.
Scrivens hearing aids and M&S hearing aids
Regarding Scrivens and Marks and Spencer's (M&S) hearing aids, M&S briefly offered Optician and Hearing Care services in six of their larger stores. In March 2023, they faced liquidation and were subsequently acquired by Owl Optical, a part of the Scrivens Group. These concessions have since been reopened under the Scrivens umbrella.
It is advisable to exercise some caution when considering M&S Hearing for your hearing aid needs. It's worth noting that Scrivens has consistently received low rankings and often landed at the bottom in various Which? Reports concerning hearing aid retailers over the past decade (as of October 2023).
While we anticipate that the M&S clinics will operate with a heightened focus on patient care, aligning with the M&S brand's reputation, we strongly encourage you to take full advantage of the standard 60-day money-back period to ensure your satisfaction with both the hearing aids you choose and the service you receive.
If you are searching for M&S hearing aid prices online, please be aware that, similar to Scrivens, you will only obtain specific pricing details when you visit one of their concessions within designated M&S stores through a scheduled appointment.
